I dont know how to start reading better books?

I dont know how to start reading better books?
I really like reading books that arent bad but really arent helping me learn anything. My mom keeps wanting me to start reading these good books that are classics likea tale of cities. and books like that. I know that when school starts again that I will have to start reading better books but I know that I wont suddenly be able to go from reading th grade level books to th grade level books. Some one please help me figure out how to get myself motivated to start reading better books.
